South African Religions

South African Religions
The religions of south afrika are a big mix of religions but consist of mostly 80% of the Christian church. About 40% of these peoples are of the protestant church. The last 40% is mostly Catholics. The 20% left of the 80% has the religions Hinduism, Muslims and Islam or other religions build out from old tribes. In the year of 1600, Netherlands settlers came to South Africa and brought the Christian church in to the country. Hinduism and the Islam religion were brought in by various Indians moving to South Africa.
Old tribes have also evolved their own religions whit rituals like offering, build temples or dances/songs to hail their gods. They got important position in their tribe, like: rainmaker ( a person who can stop or start the rain by burning special kinds of wood to try to manipulating the movment of clouds), healer ( a person with knowledge of illnesses, surgery, and pharmacology (roots, leafs and medicines found in the nature) almost the same as we to day calls a doctor) and a priest. An example of a people of this kind is the Khoisan who believes that the sun and the moon were goods and believes in tales of gods and heroes. These tales set the setting of how the Khoisan shod live and act. “Dancing healers” are a kind of doctor who was used to cure illnesses and drive away evil. They existed even in the 1990`a
So the biggest religion in South-Africa is the Christian church were the Bible is theyr holey bookand Jesus is the most important prophet.
